A Brief History

Here’s to Provincetown, Massachusetts. The Fishermen. The Rumrunners. The Painters and Sculptors. The Anarchists. The Playwrights. The Musicians. The Novelists. The Photographers. All of the Artists! Freedom of Speech. Freedom of Expression. Freedom of Worship. Freedom from Want. Freedom from Fear.

The evidence is overwhelming that the Vikings were the first explorers. If they lived up to their TV and movie hype then a little bit of pillaging and plundering was heading over the horizon. Their remnants come in the form of nordic walls.

Come 1620, the Atlantic Ocean delivered a new wave of marauders who came in the form of the men, women and children of God. They dropped anchor in the bountiful waters at Provincetown Harbor. After weathering the harshest of winter conditions, they moved a bit further downstream to settle Plymouth Colony but not before scribbling down a new constitution - a legacy of proclamation and guidelines they christened, The Mayflower Compact.
