Hopper's was lured to the tip of Cape Cod by his better half, Josephine Verstille "Jo" Hopper. She was bohemian to the bone - quite Edward's opposite - and another refugee from Greenwich Village. After marrying, there was a push-and-pull over where they would spend their time but they always seemed to land by the sea on the eastern seaboard.
It took several years to finally pursuade Edward to visit Provincetown. The neighboring sandy hills of Truro seemed to be a reasonable compromise for the two. They built a home there in 1934 and that is where Edward would spend the next forty summers painting pictures worth millions.
