BOOKS ::: LOST GENERATION :::

Another radical novelist who grew up in Chicago, graduated from Harvard and embraced the tenets of the Left. He split his time between the states and Europe where his circle of friends had names like Hemingway and Fitzgerald. He was the embodiment of the Lost Generation and soon he began making forays into the Soviet Union.

He became disillusioned after seeing friends like Jack Reed chewed up and losing friends to the Spanish Civil War and ultimately went to the other side, supporting people like Nixon in his later life. His falling out with Hemingway is legendary.
