Most of the feminist singer-songwriters that came before Ms. DiFranco carried a very important message but failed miserably when putting it to melody. Ani not only wrote great songs but became responsible for her own career as a DIY industry outsider. Her anti-corporate sentiments inspired her to create the wildly successful indy label, Righteous Babe.
