His seminal work in the music industry as a producer and in scouting talent helped knock down racial barriers and led to the discovery of greats Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen and more. He is also credited with repackaging early Robert Johnson blues recordings and exposing his legend to the masses.
