Lost and Found at Sea
At Sea moved beyond the guitar-bass-drums frame without abandoning it. Emily Grogan wrote, composed and arranged all thirteen songs. Ducky Carlisle recorded and mixed the album at Ice Station Zebra in Medford and co-produced it with Grogan; Toby Mountain mastered it at Northeastern Digital in Southborough. H. Brooks Whelan served as executive producer for One Way.
Mark Bowden’s guitars, Ken Schopf’s drums and Stephen Desaulniers’s bass form the record’s center. Around them, Scott Murawski, Gordon Stone, Andrea Gaudette, Clara Kebabian, Rebecca Thornblade, John Martin, Heidi Saperstein, Julee Avallone and Lisa Yves widen the music with mandolin, pedal steel, banjo, B3, strings, flute and layered voices. Russell Jewell, Scott Getchell and Kit Buckley created the horn introduction to “Far Apart.”
The Steinway piano was recorded at Milt Reder’s Rear Window Recording Studios in Brookline. The finished album appeared February 13, 2007 and remains the most expansive One Way statement of Grogan’s full-spectrum musicianship.
