A Record About Coming Through
An American Rock Song arrived after Rick Barton’s foundational work with The Outlets and Dropkick Murphys. Rather than repeat either band, the Shadow Blasters gave Barton a setting broad enough for punk, folk and roots rock to occupy the same record. The loud guitars remained, but the center had shifted toward songs confronting damage, regret, survival and the possibility of repair.
Barton sang and played guitar, with Billy Loosigian’s lead guitar running through the complete album. James Gambino played keyboards; Paul Kochanski played bass; Greg Burgess added guitar; and Craig Macintyre and Joe “The Animal” Donnelly supplied drums. The personnel connected the album to the Amazing Royal Crowns, Swinging Steaks, Del Fuegos and the wider network of musicians through which Boston rock continually renewed itself.
